Martin Hagmann-Smith is a graduate physicist with an additional degree as Ingénieur Diplômé. He has been a European and UK Patent Attorney since 1997 and joined WR in early 2017. He advises domestic and foreign clients on all patent law matters with a focus on the English-speaking world.

Legal practice

Martin Hagmann-Smith mainly handles grant proceedings in Germany and abroad. He also has several years of experience in opposition proceedings before the European Patent Office and proceedings before the Boards of Appeal of the European Patent Office.

Technical Background

One focus of Martin Hagmann-Smith's studies was in the field of optoelectronics. While practicing patent law in the United Kingdom, Martin Hagmann-Smith broadened his experience particularly in the fields of image processing, semiconductors, medical devices, and oil and gas exploration. More recently, Martin Hagmann-Smith expanded his practice to include automotive technology, machine tools (and accessories), and control systems.
